Less than a week after DJ A.M.’s death, girlfriend Hayley Wood is denying rumors that he overdosed after becoming depressed and angry over the couple’s break-up.
“Any indication that this horribly tragic accident happened because of a rumored breakup is not only untrue but disgusting,” she said in a statement issued to Us Weekly. “We were very much together at the time of his passing, and I love him very much.”
Hayley Wood is an aspiring model and actress who had been romantically involved with DJ A.M. (real name Adam Goldstein) for about the past year. After Goldstein’s death last week, Wood was photographed crying as she left his apartment after his body was taken out. Following Goldstein’s death, an unnamed source told People that he was “completely devastated” after Wood left him.
“She ended it, and he didn’t want it to end,” the source is reported as saying. “The breakup hurt him. He hadn’t been in a good place lately. For the past week, he wasn’t really around, he was keeping to himself, and he was blowing people off.”
On Wednesday, a New York City official said that Goldstein was found shirtless in his apartment around 5:20 p.m. with six pills believed to be Oxycontin in his stomach and one lodged in his throat.
Long-time Goldstein friend and Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker has expressed his grief over the death. The band posted on its website Tuesday that it would delay a series of upcoming shows so that Barker could “mourn the loss of his dear friend, Adam Goldstein.”
