Superstar dance couple Karina Smirnoff and Maksim Chmerkovskiy have split up following their public engagement announcement on New Year’s Eve. The break-up comes just a month after the duo opened their Broadway show Burn Up the Floor.
“I am confirming that they did indeed break up,” a representative for Karina told E! Online Tuesday. The pair previously said their marriage would be delayed by a hectic schedule that had them doing a Broadway show and prime time television.
Smirnoff is a five-time U.S. National Champion in ballroom dance, and is ranked 2nd in the world. Chmerkovskiy owns 3 dance studios in the New York City area and is often referred to as the “bad boy of Ballroom.”
