In this week’s installment of the turbulent drama that is ‘Jon and Kate,’ Kate celebrates her 34th birthday with all eight of her Gosselin brood…but estranged hubby, Jon, is nowhere in sight.
So where was the man of the house, you may ask?
“I went out to Utah for five days,” Jon told US reporters. “I just wanted to get out there and ride with my friends. It just happened to fall on Kate’s birthday.” was his ingenuous claim.
The one tiny flaw in his delightful example of creative amnesia is that Deanna Hummel, the 23-year old teacher whose arrival cracked open the flaws in his marriage, was also along for the ride. The two were spied at a Spring Gruv party in Utah on March 28 – the very same day as his wife’s latest birthday.
But – unless you are Kate – not all news is bad: The season-debut of their simmering feud scored a network-record of 9.8-million viewers on Monday. And despite a relentless, taste-optional barrage of hype, TLC claimed such ’surprise’ at the news, they’ve already ordered a 40-part sequel!
And now they want to make more shows just like it…
A sordid, open-call notice was recently posted on Craigslist, in which the channel was soliciting families expecting new multiple births. “TLC is now looking for NY, NJ and CT families expecting twins, triplets, or more!” it read. “We would capture the birth of the babies and witness their first breath….and all the emotions that go with such an occasion. Then, TLC will be there as you adjust to your first days at home as a family,” it read.
As you might guess, the word soon got out, and TLC quickly had the post killed.
The sparring couple are scheduled to ‘celebrate’ their tenth anniversary a week from Wednesday. But any party ideas may now be on hold after their local Department of Labor announced they would investigate claims the TLC show is in breach of numerous child labor laws.
What could happen from there is just too tough to call.
